Community of Practice

What is a community of practice?

A community of practice is a group of people with a shared interest who intentionally come together to regularly meet and interact in order to grow their knowledge and strengthen their practice in relation to that shared interest. A community of practice usually involves three components: a common interest or activity, regular mutual engagement and collaboration, and a collection of shared tools and resources.

Why a Flourish Coalition community of practice?

The Flourish Coalition community of practice aims to create a supportive and generative space for relationship-building and collaboration, which is essential as we strive to facilitate positive transformation in our world while navigating the unique challenges of our time. Our approach prioritizes building broad coalitions and grassroots power through collaborative learning and community and cultural organizing, all aimed at transforming our food system and society toward greater justice, equity, community leadership, climate resilience, and sustainability. We also operate from a sanctuary-inspired ethos of multi-species care and community that recognizes the transformative potential of intentionally cultivating spaces where we can come together to explore, imagine, and practice more just and liberatory possibilities for all beings.

Who is the Flourish Coalition community of practice for?

This community of practice is for people over the age of 18 who are interested in food justice and food system transformation, grounded in a racial justice and decolonial approach, and committed to broader social and climate justice. It is for those who are already applying, or are open to applying, a lens of multi-species care and liberation to their work and who want to actively engage in a community dedicated to collaborative learning and grassroots action.
